The short version. We collect the minimum the app needs to work, store it on a server in Australia, and never sell it, share it, or use it to train AI. There are no third-party analytics, no advertising, and one cookie, which keeps you signed in. We count our own visitor numbers on our own server, as anonymous daily totals. Delete your account and your data goes with it.
Muttmates (muttmates.au) is operated by Dutch Digital Dynamics Pty Limited (ABN 86 081 237 087), Queensland, Australia. We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Contact us about anything in this statement at hello@muttmates.au.
The app only asks for your location when you use a "near me" feature, and only with your permission through the browser. The coordinates are used to sort the park list by distance and are not kept, with one exception: if you choose to save a home location, that point is stored on your profile so the app can put your closest parks first. You can clear it any time. Your device location is never shown to other members. What other members see is the park you posted a plan for, which is the whole point of the app.
Members see your first name, your dogs (including photos), your plans, and your messages in plans you share with them. The public park pages on this website show recent park comments with the dog's name attached, not yours. Nothing else is public.
One cookie: mm_session, which keeps you signed in. That is it. No third-party
analytics scripts, no advertising pixels, no third-party fonts or CDNs, no fingerprinting.
Park maps are stored with the app, so browsing parks sends nothing to any mapping service.
We do keep our own visitor counts, on our own server, so we know whether anyone is using the thing. What is stored is a daily total per screen plus a one-way scrambled code that changes every day, which lets us count "how many different visitors today" without storing your IP address, your device details, or anything that can follow you from one day to the next. No cookie is involved and nothing leaves our server.
We send transactional email from our own server: sign-in links, password resets, plan notifications if you have email fallback on, and the weekly digest if you have it on. Each of those can be turned off in Settings. We do not send marketing and we do not give your address to anyone. Push notifications go through your browser's push service (that is how web push works on every platform); the message content is encrypted to your device.
Everything is stored on our own server in Brisbane, Australia, including routine backups. The site runs over HTTPS only, passwords are hashed with scrypt, and signing out destroys the session on the server, not just in your browser.
Nobody. We do not sell personal information, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not feed it to AI training. The only exceptions are the ones every service has: if the law requires us to disclose something, or if it is necessary to deal with a genuine safety threat.
We keep your data while your account exists. Delete your account from Settings and your dogs, plans, photos and messages are removed. That action cannot be undone and we cannot recover the data for you afterwards. Deleted data can persist in backups for a short period before the backup cycle rotates it out. You can also email us to ask for deletion.
You can see and edit almost everything we hold about you directly in the app. For anything else, or to ask for a copy or a correction, email hello@muttmates.au. If you think we have mishandled your personal information, tell us first and we will look at it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Muttmates accounts are for adults, 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child holds an account, email us and we will remove it.
If this statement changes, the date at the top changes with it. A material change will also be flagged in the app.
